FIRST Illinois Robotics Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant

[Arlington Heights, IL USA] – Thursday, September 19, 2019 – FIRST Illinois Robotics, today announced it has received a grant for $40,000 USD from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Motorola Solutions.

Through the grant, FIRST Illinois Robotics will be able to continue supporting the thousands of students in Illinois participating in the City Shaper season of FIRST LEGO League. FIRST LEGO League is the competitive LEGO robotics game played by 4th-8th graders who design, build, and run an autonomous robot in a tournament setting to earn as many points as possible. The students also compete by completing an Innovation Project, learning about Core Values, and robot design. Teams of up to 10 students are eligible to attend one qualifying tournament called a Qualifier to determine who will go to the State Championships. In Illinois, we run 3 State Championship tournaments. The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as FIRST Illinois Robotics, which support and advance public safety programs and technology and engineering education initiatives.

This season, the Motorola Solutions grant will support our State Championships and Qualifying events with particular focus on Chicago based team growth and support.

Motorola Solutions has been a proud supporter of FIRST Illinois Robotics for the past 20 years!

This year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help more than 2 million students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe. There is a specific focus on providing grants to programs that impact underrepresented populations, including females, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans and others.

“We are very pleased to support the work of FIRST Illinois Robotics,” said Monica Mueller, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We believe in organizations that foster innovation and drive change, and we’re proud to be part of the positive impact they are making in the community.”
